Daniel Bongardt

Position: Senior Programme Manager
Location: Africa, Nairobi

I am Senior Programme Manager for E-Mobility at GIZ and lead the project ‘Leapfrogging to Zero-Emission Transport in Africa’ (LEAP), funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI). I am also a member of the strategy group of the Transport Data Commons (TDC). From 2015 to 2026, I worked in Bonn, Germany, where I led several mobility projects and, from 2023, headed GIZ’s global Infrastructure and Mobility team. Before that, I led GIZ’s mobility team in Beijing. My work spans public transport, climate policy, electric mobility and transport data, and I am passionate about understanding and reducing transport emissions. Before joining GIZ in 2009, I spent 11 years researching sustainable mobility at the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy.
