Rethinking Transport Lab: Rethinking e-mobility in Africa

"Rethinking e-mobility" is part of a series of Rethinking Transport Labs. The workshop, focusing on the opportunities for accelerating electric mobility across the African continent will take place from 6-10 November 2023 in East Africa (final location tbc). The Lab seeks to foster creativity, innovation, and collaboration among prominent stakeholders from African countries, including representatives from academia, civil society, non-governmental organizations, and think tanks, to jointly develop comprehensive visions for electric mobility in Africa. The highly interactive workshop will bring together 30 participants from across the continent!

Who can participate in your activities

Generally, we are welcoming participants from African countries that are engaged in activities related to the transport transformation in their country and on the continent. We are looking for highly motivated candidates that aim to bring forward change. The individual criteria for the selection of participants are specified for all our activities in the call for applications.

I’m from a Francophone country in Africa, am I eligible to apply?

Yes, the Rethinking Transport Lab welcome applicants from all 54 African countries, including francophone countries. Please note that you need to be able to communicate in the language indicated in the lab requirements.

I’m from Africa, but am currently based in Europe/East Asia/ U.S. etc. Am I eligible to apply?

No, the Rethinking Transport Labs are specifically designed for Africans working and permanently residing in Africa. If you are currently based outside of Africa, unfortunately, you are not eligible to apply.

My university/organization won’t allow me to leave for a full week and continue being paid, will the organizers provide me with a salary/allowance for the duration of the Lab?

No, the organizers will solely cover the expenses related to accommodation, meals, health insurance, visa fees, and round-trip economy airfare for all participants who are selected to attend the lab. It is important to note that the program DOES NOT provide any form of salary or allowance. We suggest that you have a prior discussion with your university or organization regarding your participation and any necessary leave arrangements.

Are there any age restrictions for applicants?

No, there are no specific age restrictions for applicants. The Rethinking Transport Lab welcomes participants from a diverse range of age groups.
