Expanding on previous analyses by SLOCAT and GIZ on the first rounds of NDCs, the analysis recognizes that transport plays a crucial role in achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement, considering that transport is the second largest polluting sector. This brochure presents key insights of the analysis:
Although more and more countries are including the transport sector in their NDCs and LTS, many commitments remain vague, critical areas – such as freight transport – are not sufficiently addressed, and several NDCs miss the opportunity to link climate action in transport to a broader sustainability agenda.
You can browse through and zoom in on this analysis’ data on in our Tracker of Climate Strategies for Transportation, find the french version of the publication, and discover a detailed analysis for the Middle East and Northern Africa.
The Advancing Transport Climate Strategies project as well as the NDC Transport Initiative for Asia programme are funded by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV).
