Paratransit is one of the most popular modes of public transport in African cities, but it also contributes significantly to air pollution and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions due to the use of old, often secondhand vehicles and high-mileage operational use. Electrification of this sector can be used as a mechanism to improve service and, in parallel, to replace old, unsafe vehicles, reduce air pollution and GHG emissions, and potentially enable a shift to higher-occupancy electric vehicles.
The three-part capacity building webinar will explore:
10:00-10:50 | Session 1 - Regional lessons on developing enabling policy and regulation to transition the paratransit sector to electric (Nairobi study tour lessons learned).
11:00-11:50 | Session 2 - Practical tools for policy makers, operators and investors in paratransit electrification.
12:00-12:50 | Session 3 - Capacitating city, regional and national governments on GHG emissions calculations of the paratransit sector in aid of Climate Action Plans (CAPs) and NDCs.
