Sectoral contributions to achieving the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) –Asia calls for increased ambition

Bringing Regional Perspectives to Transport and Climate Change Week 2024

The contribution of transport to climate action requires a multi-factor approach, hand in hand with access and social inclusion, highlighting that how transport contributes to the climate commitment is a key element promoting the transition towards zero-emission. This is the flag raised by the regional conference ‘Low-Carbon Prosperity in Progress: Transforming Transport in Asia’ organized by the NDC Transport Initiative for Asia (NDC TIA) in Bangkok, Thailand from 25 to 28 June 2024. Trying to understand how the Asian transport community is moving forward, an Ambassador from Transport and Climate Change Week team visited and participated during the conference in Bangkok, to collect ideas and invite to the 7th edition of Transport Week, to be hosted online from 4-8 November.

Following the peer-to-peer exchange experience promoted by both conferences, some elements are taken to build the agenda of this year Transport and Climate Change Week. Knowing that the political will must be accompanied by action, we’ll learn about China’s pioneering emission standards for zero-emission trucks, India’s innovative multi-stakeholder approach to EV deployment, and Vietnam’s ambitious e-mobility plan for Ho Chi Minh City.

Representatives from Asian countries, including Thailand, India, Vietnam, China, Philippines and Indonesia took the in-person opportunity in Bangkok to exchange and learn from each other. These exchanges are setting the ground for further discuss globally in November, where, by connecting the dots, we aim to foster global transport climate action, at the online Transport and Climate Change Week Conference.
