Transport and Climate Change 2018 Global Status Report

The Transport and Climate Change Global Status Report (TCC-GSR) describes transport demand and emission trends and illustrates related policy targets and measures in a regular and actionable report. The TCC-GSR shows the potential of the transport sector to contribute to the Paris Agreement 1.5 degree target, providing a resource for policy-makers to increase ambition on transport and climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The report is divided in three main parts:

  • Part I: Overview on emission trends by transport subsectors (passenger, freight and aviation) and global regions.
  • Part II: Recent trends in transport demand and transport emissions and potential pathways consistent with the Paris Agreement’s targets.
  • Part III: Frameworks for transport and climate change planning according to the UNFCCC mitigation and adaptation planning processes. It also illustrates 180 policy examples from 70 countries within the ‘Avoid-Shift-Improve’ framework.

The TCC-GSR is spearheaded by the Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) and primarily supported by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ GmbH) and the Hewlett Foundation.
