Promoting sustainable urban mobility in the Greater Metropolitan Area of Costa Rica
The project “TUE-Mobility – Transformación Urbana Estratégica” is implemented by GIZ in partnership with Costa Rica’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT), the Public Transport Council (CTP), and the Costa Rican Railway Institute (INCOFER).
Its primary objective is to modernize public transportation in Costa Rica’s Greater Metropolitan Area (GAM) by advancing low-emission, inclusive, and integrated mobility solutions. By doing so, the project aims to support Costa Rica’s transformation of the GAM into a model for sustainable urban mobility, addressing air pollution, traffic congestion, and outdated infrastructure through bus electrification, intermodal connectivity, and community-centered planning.
