GIZ is implementing several activities in close collaboration with the Rwandan government, as well as the private sector and Academia. The overall objective of these activities is to support the development of sustainable transport systems, in particular e-mobility and public transport, and to accelerate their decarbonization.
Currently, two projects are being implemented by GIZ:
Mobilize Net-Zero: GIZ is supporting Rwanda’s Ministry of Infrastructure on its path to electrify and decarbonize public transportation in secondary/satellite cities, as well as in intercity and rural areas.Key activities under planning and implementation are
In addition, Mobilize Net-Zero is supporting the Rwandan government in the development of the Transport Sector Strategic Plan for the upcoming 4 years, and Guidelines to mainstream the country’s NDC commitments in the transport sector.
Smart Mobility Lab: GIZ is collaborating with the private sector (Volkswagen, Kabisa, PEM Motion, EnrouteQ), academia (Carnegie Mellon University Africa) and civil society (Trufi Association), to promote the uptake of electric mobility and digitalize public transport services in Kigali.
