Janina Marie Laurent

Project Advisor Low Carbon Sea Transport
based in Majuro, Marshall Islands

Growing up in the harbor city of Hamburg in Germany, I am exposed to shipping from an early age. In my role as project advisor in the “Transitioning to Low Carbon Sea Transport” project based in the Marshall Islands I am responsible for policy activities within the project that supports the Marshall Islands in delivering its Nationally Determined Contributions under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) which includes a specific section on sea transportation. We use baseline data on GHG emissions and energy efficiency of domestic ships, including the development and pilot-testing of low-carbon propulsion technologies in cooperation with partners, together with education and training of ship crew and researchers, as well as the use of modern energy-efficient sailing technologies.
