This whitepaper distils discussions among transportation stakeholders from Rwanda and elsewhere in Africa and overseas, who came together to discuss how inclusive smart mobility solutions can have a positive social and economic impact, and how the resulting reduction in CO2 emissions can lead to better health and climate outcomes.
The paper takes a digital approach to identifying and addressing transportation issues with the objective of pointing the way towards developing a sustainable transportation ecosystem. This will be of interest to decision makers in government, implementation and development partners, as well as researchers and academics.
Examples are presented while recommendations are given for traffic management, regulation, green city design, inclusive design, and the use of AI and vehicle communications in intelligent transportation systems.
