This is a policy paper that gives an overview of trending accessibility and mobility issues faced across 20 African urban areas. It delivers a conceptual framework and a set of policy recommendations for improving mobility conditions, both of which can be taken on board measure selection during phase 3 of the SUMP process. The paper includes international experiences and lessons that African cities can adopt for various priorities such as: improving governance frameworks, making transport systems more efficient, mitigating negative impacts, externalities of transport, and overcoming identified barriers to accessible sustainable urban mobility.
