Research on Infrastructure in Developing Economies (RIDE)

Low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) face ongoing transport challenges: underdeveloped infrastructure that is economically inefficient, environmentally damaging, and socially exclusive.

The UK-funded Research on Infrastructure in Developing Economies (RIDE) Programme accelerates applied research and innovation responding to the prioritised needs of LMICs, while helping mobilise private finance to overcome chronic underinvestment.

We identify strategic research priorities to close persistent knowledge gaps and generate insights that:

  • strengthen national transport transitions
  • support inclusive economic growth, accelerate low-carbon, resilient, and climate-compatible infrastructure
  • bridge the divide between research and finance
