Transforming Transport in the City of Cologne – Experiences & Lessons Learned

Friday 11 October 10-11:30 AM

Cologne, Germany’s fourth-largest city, is renowned for its iconic cathedral, lively carnival, and—of course—decades of car-centric urban planning. However, with the current city council’s ambitious climate goals, the administration has undertaken a challenging yet rewarding journey towards low-carbon, human-centered transport planning. Frederik Strompen will offer a brief overview of the Department of Transport’s mobility strategy, highlighting key achievements and the valuable lessons learned along the way. The focus will be on the strategic framework (SUMP), active transport initiatives, and a glimpse into future projects. Frederik previously served as personal advisor to the mayor and Chief of Staff in the Department of Transport.
